Materials:
In 8ply/DK/(USA-WW(4ply)) Courtelle yarn; approx: 37grms (1.1/2ozs) green;
and small amount of white for nose, ears,feet and tail;
Small amount of pink for nose and claws; Small amount of black for eyes and whiskers;
Small amounts of red, green and blue yarn for coloured
markers.
No.11 (3mm)(USA2) knitting needles; suitable childsafe toy stuffing; tweezers for stuffing
arms and legs; tapestry needle for sewing up;
Tension
& Size:
Worked at a tension of 26 stitches and 36 rows to 10 x 10cm
over stocking stitch, using No.11(3mm) needles throughout. Height: From base to
top of ears 15cms (6") not including legs.
Abbreviations:
K, knit; p, purl; st(sts), stitch,
stitches; sl, slip; tog, together; inc, increase (by working twice into same
st); dec, decrease (by taking 2 sts tog); NR: next row; ss, stocking stitch (k on right side
and p on wrong side); Skpo; slip1, knit1, pass slipped stitch over; Coloured marker: Short
length of a different coloured yarn to the yarn
that you are using at present; Cast off: bind off.
BODY: (make 1 piece)
Starting at base edge and using green yarn, cast on 48sts.
1st row: Knit placing 1st coloured marker (red yarn) in
22nd and 27th stitch
Starting with a purl row, ss3 rows.
5th row: Placing 2nd coloured marker (green yarn) in 1st and last stitch, knit
this row.
Starting with a purl row, ss13 rows.
19th row: Placing 3rd coloured marker (blue yarn) in 1st and last stitch, knit
this row.
Starting with a purl row, ss3 rows.
23rd row: (K4, k2tog) to end of row (40sts).
24th row: Purl.
Shape for shoulders: K4, (k2tog) six times, k8, (k2tog) six times, k4 (28sts).
NR: P4, (p2tog) three times, p8, (p2tog) three times, P4 (22sts).
Neck: Ss4 rows.
Head: K2, inc, in each st to last two sts, k2 (40sts).
Ss17 rows.
Shape for top of head:
1st dec, row: (K3, k2tog) to end of row (32sts). NR: Purl.
2nd dec, row: (K2, k2tog) to end of row (24sts). NR: Purl.
3rd dec, row: (K1, k2tog) to end of row (16sts). NR: Purl.
4th dec, row: (K2tog) to end of row (8sts). Leaving a long end, break off yarn
and thread through sts and put aside.
BASE: (make 1 piece)
Using green yarn, cast on 20sts and ss16 rows. Cast off all sts.
ARMS: (make 2 pieces)
Using green yarn and starting at top of arm cast on 12sts and ss7 rows.
Next row: Inc, purlwise, p10, inc, (14sts). Ss11 rows.
Next row: P1, (p1, p2tog) to last st, p1 (10sts).
Starting with a knit row, ss6 rows.
Next row: K2tog, to end of row (5sts). Break off yarn and thread through sts and put aside.
LEGS: (make 2 pieces)
Using green yarn and starting at top of leg, cast on 14sts and ss25 rows.
Break off green and join in white yarn and purl one row.
Next row: Inc, (k2, inc) to last st, inc, (20sts).
Starting with a purl row ss8 rows.
Next row: (P2tog) to end of row (10sts).
Cast off all sts.
NOSE: (make 1 piece)
Using white yarn, cast on 26sts and ss2 rows.
Next row: K1, (k2, k2tog) to last st, k1, (20sts).
Next row: Purl.
Next row: K1, (k1, k2tog) to last st, k1, (14sts).
Next row: Purl.
Next row: (k2tog) to end of row (7sts). Break off yarn and thread through sts, pull up tightly
and sew row ends together back to cast on edge.
EARS:
Backs: (make 2 pieces)
Using green yarn, cast on 10sts and ss18 rows.
Dec, 1st, at beg, of next 6 rows (4sts). Cast off all sts.
Inners: (make 2 pieces)
Using white yarn, cast on 8sts and ss18 rows.
Dec, 1st, at beg of next 4 rows (4sts).
Knit one row. (Cast off all sts).
Tail: (make 1 piece)
Using white yarn, cast on 8sts and purl one row.
Next row: Inc, knitwise into each st, (16sts).
Ss4 rows.
Next row: (k2tog) to end of row (8sts). Break off yarn and thread through sts.
JACKET: (made in 1 piece)
Using yellow yarn, cast on 52sts and knit 12 rows.
Divide for armhole openings: K12, Cast off 2sts, k24, cast off 2sts,
knit to end of row.
Right Front: Working on the first set of 12sts, k10, k2tog, (11sts).
Knit 11 rows. Cast off this set of 11sts.
Back: rejoin yarn to centre set of 24sts.
1st row: Skpo, k20, k2tog, (22sts).
knit 11 rows. Cast off this set of 22sts.
Left Front: Rejoin yarn to last set of 12sts.
1st row: K2tog, k10, (11sts).
Knit 12 rows. Cast off this set of 22sts.
Tie: Using yellow yarn, make a length of chain 50sts, long.
MAKING UP:
Legs: Sew row ends together from cast on row to cast off row.
Fold cast off edge in half so that the seam is in the centre of back
and sew cast off edge together. Turn leg to right
side. Stuff paw firmly, stuff the first 2cms (1") of the leg lightly and leave the rest of leg
unfilled (empty).
Body: Pull up sts, tightly at top of head and sew row ends together to 3rd (blue)
coloured marker. Leaving an opening in between blue and green coloured marker, sew row ends
together to cast on edge. Fold the legs in half, so that the seam is in the centre and back
of legs. Pin the top of legs to cast on edge of body either side of the two 1st coloured
markers
(red yarn) leaving a 2st gap between the legs and the leg seam facing the back of body (See photo 2). Push the legs
inside
the body and pin base to body with two stitches overhanging each side of legs.
(See photo 3). Sew base and legs to body. Turn body
right side out through opening and stuff body and head firmly. Leave the opening in body
open until nose and ears have been sewn on head.
Nose: Pull up sts, tightly and sew row ends together to cast on edge. Turn nose so
that right side of work is facing you and stuff firmly. Sew nose to head with the lower edge
two rows up from the increase for head row adding extra stuffing if required.
Ears: Pin the front and back pieces together. Sew row edges together from cast on edge up to top of ear and back down
to cast on row. Turn work to right side and fold ears in half lengthwise and oversew the first 4 rows together from
the cast on edge. Sew the cast on edge of ears to head with a gap of 2sts in between, (see
photo 1 for placement).
Facial features: (See photo 1 for placement).
Eyes: Leaving a gap of 3sts between eyes and using black yarn work a chain stitch
in one st and work a second chain stitch around the first st. Nose: Using pink yarn,
and long st, work V for nose. Work one long stitch from the centre and lower edge of nose to mouth
work one long stitch either side for mouth. Whiskers: Attach black yarn to nose and pull
up yarn and starting at 3cms away from nose, work small blanket sts, around the yarn back to nose. Work
another 5 whiskers.
Sew up back opening adding extra stuffing to head and body if required.
Arms: Pull stitches up tightly and sew row ends together to cast on edge.
Turn arms so that the right side of work is facing you and stuff hands and
2cms(1") of arm, leaving the rest of arm unfilled (empty). Fold arm so that seam is in the centre
back and facing body. Pin the cast on edge of arms to body at the decrease for shoulder
row on body. Sew arms to body through both thicknesses of the cast on edge row to body
and 2 rows down the arm.
Claws: Thread your tapestry needle with pink yarn and join to paw in the 4th row up
from cast off edge. Place the yarn over the cast on edge and into the 4th row on other side
of paw. Pull up yarn tightly and work a second stitch. Work a second claw in each paw.
Tail: Pull up stitches tightly and sew row ends together back to the cast on edge. Turn piece to right side and stuff tail firmly. Sew cast on edge of tail to the centre of back just above the base edge.
Jacket: Sew in ends. Placing the front and back together at cast off edge, oversew the first 4 sts at armhole edges together to form shoulder seam. Place the jacket on bunny and using a loose overstitch, sew the two front neckedges together at the cast off edge row and sew the centre of tie to these stitches. Shape the tie into a bow (see photo 1).
