06/09/2003, Championship 12: Smashed

After being smashed 6-0 in the first set, it looked as though Bob and Z may make a match of it in the second set when they led 3-1. But the UKKK and Roy reeled off six straight games to end any doubts.

Non-championship matches played:
UKKK (DK)/Z (DK Jr) vs Roy (Boo)/Bob (Luigi), Indoors: 6-4, 6-4. Roy & Bob led 4-0 in the second set before being inexplicably overwhelmed.
UKKK (Wario)/Bob (Waluigi) vs Roy (DK)/Z (BM), Hard: 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5). Always a close match, this combination. UKKK served for match, but blew it. Blew a critical point in the tie-breaker too. But they prevailed.

17/05/2003, Championship 10 & 11: Hint of an upset

While the first match ended quickly as usual against UKKK's and Roy's Yoshi and Kong combination, Bob and Z's next challenge, this time with Luigi and Baby Mario against the Bowser and Boo, was looking great when they raced away with a 3-0 lead. However, once Boo landed a few swerve passing shots to get his the team on the board, Bob and Z suddenly lost all confidence and capitulated.

Non-championship matches played:
UKKK (Wario)/Bob (Mario) vs Roy (DK)/Z (BMario), Indoors: 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Wario's blistering serves at Z earned them UKKK and Bob too many free points.

17/05/2003, Championship 9: Some hint of challenge

Bob and Z challenged again, and with Z using DK Jr instead of his usual Baby Mario, hopes were high for some challenge. Those hopes died quickly after Roy and the UKKK raced away with the first set. However, the second set saw Bob and Z display some symmetry, and at least made the champs slightly for their straight-sets victory.

Non-championship matches played:
UKKK (Daisy)/Z (BMario) vs Bob (Mario)/Roy (DK), Indoors: 6-1, 6-4. Too consistent.
Roy (DK)/Z (DK Jr) vs UKKK (Wario)/Bob (Mario), Clay: 6-2, 6-4. Roy and Z adjusted to the clay quicker.
UKKK (Wario)/Bob (Mario) vs Roy (Boo)/Z (Luigi), Grass: 6-3, 7-5. Overpowered, especially on the fast grass.

17/05/2003, Championship 8: New challengers, same outcome

After an 18 month lay-off between Mario Tennis World Championships, a new team challenged the undefeated team of the UKKK and Royboy, but typically, it crumbled in a heap. What do you expect when you have Z, who has no court awareness and has concentration lapses, and Simo, who admits to have trouble playing in a team? Anyway, more interesting were the subsequent non-championship matches involving different partnerships. UKKK and Bob refused to end on a loss against Roy and Z, but eventually had to relent and pick characters with some firepower to finally turn the tables.

UKKK (Waluigi)/Simo (DK Jr) vs Roy (DK)/Bob (Toad), Indoors: 6-2, 6-3
UKKK (Daisy)/Bob (Birdo) vs Roy (DK)/Z (DK Jr), Grass: 4-6, 4-6
UKKK (Yoshi)/Bob (Toad) vs Roy (DK)/Z (DK Jr), Grass: 4-6, 5-7
UKKK (Bowser)/Bob (Mario - Star Player) vs Roy (DK)/Z (DK Jr), Hard: 6-4, 6-3

15/12/2001 Championship 6 & 7

Seems like the team of the UKKK and Royboy will never be defeated.  Again twice steamrolled perennial challengers, Bob and Z, on this night.  Bob and Z seemed finally to achieve some concept of teamwork when they traded service games in the second set of the second match with UKKK and Roy, but when the inevitable UKKK and Royboy run kicked into gear, as usual, they had no answers.  Really, that is the key to beating UKKK and Roy: stopping their runs and putting them under pressure.  Otherwise it is just too easy.

The four players then switched team-mates for two more games, which saw the UKKK's team win both matches.  First UKKK partnered Z, and using Waluigi and Yoshi, defeated Bob and Royboy as Birdo and Boo 6-1, 6-2, on hard-court.   Bob then saw victory when he and the UKKK (Luigi and Baby Mario) defeated Royboy and Z (Paratrooper and Mario) Indoors, 6-1, 6-3.  Amazing that all four matches saw a 6-1 score-line in the first set!

13/10/2001 Championship 5

Bob and Z as Team Mario backed up after defeat in the last championship as the dominance of the UKKK and RoyBoy continued with them easily winning the first set.  Bob and Z managed to win the first game of the second set, and with notable improvement in their game, seemed capable of mounting some sort of challenge.  That was snuffed out quickly as the UKKK and RoyBoy went on to win the next 5 games to run out 6-1, 6-2 winners.

13/10/2001 Championship 4

Bob - now using Mario instead of his customary Toad - and Z were back to challenge, however, the match turned out to be just another routine victory for the mighty UKKK and RoyBoy.  They were never really challenged in their 6-1, 6-2 destruction of Team Mario.

30/06/2001 Championship 3

The UKKK and RoyBoy had new challengers, this time in the form of Bob and Simo.   While all parties mucked around in the first game by using just one hand or even their feet on the controller, the UKKK and Roy combination quickly got into gear and raced away with the first set.   The challenge for Bob and Simo was to see if they could do better than the previous match combo of Bob and Z.  In winning three games in total compared to just one of the previous combination, Simo had the nice distinction of being a 200% better partner with Bob than Z was.

30/06/2001 Championship 2

Again, the UKKK and RoyBoy totally dominated the match.  The traditional competitive start from Bob and Z was never there.  Maybe it was due to the fact that two World Championships in other games were played prior that put them off their game, but regardless, UKKK and RoyBoy were in the same boat and managed to stay focus.  Even Kong's sometimes errant serves were on target and he was never broken for a change.

11/06/2001 Championship 1

With the UKKK and RoyBoy the undisputed Tennis - let alone Mario Tennis - kings throughout the years, they were odds-on to defeat perpetual whipping boys, Z and Bob.  The UKKK and Roy are often slow starters, and the first set saw them down a break and behind 4-3 after DKong (Roy) lost his second service game.  Strangely, since he is so powerful, the Roy-controlled DKong often loses his serve whilst the UKKK-Yoshi wins most of his despite being one of the weakest.  It could be the UKKK's traditional excellent placement, or it could simply be due to their opponents being subconsciously more alert when facing the tougher Kong serve.  Regardless, Kong and Yoshi immediately broke back to win the next three games and the first set 6-4.  Their form continued on in the second and final set as they threatened to win it to love.  Toad (Bob) and Baby Mario (Z) collapsed in a heap, and while  they managed to salvage one game late in the set, it did nothing to stop the Kong-Yoshi steamroller.
