Before the night of the Lord's Supper please peruse the Scriptures you will use as a source of inspiration and consider how you might have opportunity to share the reading and exposition.

INTRODUCTION
What the people of God commemorate is the observance recorded in 1Cor 11:23-26; Jn 13; Mt 26:17-30; Mk 14:12-31; Lk 22:14-22. The sacrifice of the Lamb of God (Jn 1:29; Rev 21:9) was foreseen by the Almighty Father as a necessity for the propitiation (i.e., the means of removing) of the sins of the world (1Jn 2:2) and was foreseen by God before the creation of the universe (1Pet 1:17-21; Acts 2:22-28; 2Tim 1:9). This was understood by God's faithful from the beginning (Gen 3:15; 4:4; Heb 4:4,17-19; Gal 3:7-9,14,16). It is seen as advisable that these Scriptures, already mentioned, and a selection from Is 52:13-53:12; Ps 22; Jn 1:29,34; Rev 5:6-6:1,15; 7:9-10; 21:9,14,22,23,27; 22:1-3 and more—e.g., Rom 6:1-8:39, Heb 11:27-28—be read as preparation for this annual commemoration.

In additional preparation for the night, after sunset, and after a communal meal if you so choose, do some prayer beseeching God for inspiration in the observance, in its meaningfulness, and in better comprehension of its personal impact.

THE FOOTWASHING
Review Mt 20:25-28; Lk 22:24-30; Jn 13:1-17. If someone is willing, even if not baptized, you might wash their feet. This would mean that there had been previous discussion with that person about what you wanted to do and why. Eating of the bread and drinking of the wine is for the baptized (1Cor 10:15-16; 11:23-26; Rom 8:14-17).

THE BREAD OF LIFE
Having forgiven others, and having been forgiven (Mt 6:12,14,15; Lk 23:34), and having committed ourselves to the love of God as the Son of God teaches, consider the following: Jn 6:31-58; Lk 22:14-22; 1Cor 10:16,17. Someone should do some prayer inspired from thoughts as expressed in these Scriptures, then all break off a piece of unleavened bread (1Cor 11:24) and eat it.

THE SHED BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST
We know that the shed blood of sacrificial animals (bulls, sheep, goats, doves) does not forgive sins (Gen 4:4; Heb 11:4; 10:1-10). Other Scriptures helpful in appreciating this are: Mt 26:27-29; Heb 9:11-15; Col 1:19-20; 1Jn 1:7; Rev 1:4-6). Say a pre-considered prayer and drink the red wine prepared for the occasion.

CONCLUSION
It is good to read, with careful thought and prayer, John 13:1 to 17:26 (e.g., Jn 13:34-37; 14:27-31; 15:1-5,13-25; 16:1-4,33; 17:1-26. End with a hymn (Ps 23; 118), and/or a prayer.

During the night and the next day study the awesome meaning of this remembrance, including the trials, tribulations, mistreatments, anguish, insults, scorn, and rejection Jesus Christ went through until He died (Mt 26:31-27:56; Lk 22:24-23:56; Jn 18:1-19:30; Ps 22, 69, 109; Is 52:13-53:12; 50:4-9).
