One of the contests I have participated in is the John Moyle Field Day. The aim of this contest is to establish a portable amateur radio station and communicate with other amateur stations. Each contact made from the station scores a points value depending on how far apart the stations are. The Scout Radio & Electronics Service Unit participate in this contest every year, using callsign VK3SAA, and won their section in 1996 and again in 1997.

Another contest is the Remembrance Day (RD) contest. The aim of this contest is to communicate with as many other amateur radio stations in a 24 hour period. Each contact made from the station scores one point. The Scout Radio & Electronics Service Unit also participate in this contest every year, using callsign VK3SAA on bands above 30 MHz and VK3SAY for all bands below 30MHz.
