History.

The Burmese Cat's origins start with Wong Mau, a brown Burmese female cat from Burma who was imported by Dr. Joseph Thompson of San Francisco back in the early 1930's. An attractive walnut brown cat Wong Mau was then mated with Siamese.

Through this selective breeding to Siamese, it was established that the Burmese is a distinct breed. The resulting kittens were of many different colour patterns, including a dark solid brown. These solid brown cats then became the core breeding stock of the new breed, from which every Burmese of today can trace it's heritage back to.

The Burmese Today.

A happy and unflappable cat, the Burmese is the perfect playmate for children.

Curious and playful into adult life, the Burmese is also very affectionate, loyal and highly intelligent. They love people and get along well with other cats and dogs. Powerfully built, with lots of muscle, the Burmese is surprisingly heavy for its size.

Burmese should never be let outdoors as they are too trusting and have little survival instinct. Be forwarned! They can be addictive, and you may find you cannot stop at just one, many people go for their second and sometimes even their third Burmese, often of different colours.

The Burmese’s short, satin-textured coat is a rich warm brown and it’s eyes are gold. It is the only natural breed of brown cat. Breeding has produced the blue Burmese and a variety of other colors from red and cream to lilac, chocolate and tortoishell.

I love the brown, with its’ gorgeous sheen, but the other colours all have their best points, the lilac, with its' beautiful pinkish hue to the coat in the sunlight is possibly my next favorite.

I fell in love with their gregarious nature, always ready for a game, always affectionate, and lovely to cuddle in bed.
