Welcome
Meltrip is a website that documents the evolution of public transport services in Melbourne since the year 2000. It contains material that may be useful for both historical research and understanding our current network better. Meltrip's focus is on metropolitan routes and service levels, with some fares and ticketing thrown in.
Past routes provide a full list of the train, tram and bus routes that operated in previous years. Past fares and ticketing document the soon to be superseded Metcard ticketing system.
Old hyperlinks are preserved where available. Even though old links are often now dead, knowing them is still useful for those wishing to search further through the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Wayback links for the largest operators are shown below.
Meltrip hosts some current network information unavailable elsewhere. The most important of this is Current routes, which includes route numbers, destinations and approximate service span for trains, trams and buses on a single page. Other items include Frequent service maps, the city train loop, lists of Related bus routes, Train alternative bus and tram routes, Introduction to Melbourne public transport, and a Melbourne public transport glossary.
Under the Victorian Transport Plan, big things are planned for public transport. In addition, at least some previously-announced intiatives, such as metropolitan bus review recommendations, will be implemented. This new section will provide information on these as well as some of the author's papers and submissions.
