Regular 160 metre AM activity audible in Melbourne includes the following:

* Coffee Break Net: Monday - Saturday. Starts 11:00am 1843 kHz AM. Local chat on a range of topics. Very popular with over 10 stations often present.

* Crossband 'Missions': Wednesdays and Saturdays 10:30pm. 1865 kHz AM, 3.670kHz LSB, 147.475 MHz FM. Recorded and live conversations on a range of topics, historical and current. Zany, boring or thought-provoking, depending on when you turn on.

* VK2WI News: Sundays 7:30pm. 1845 kHz AM, 3595kHz LSB, 5425 kHz USB and 7146 kHz AM. A bulletin of amateur radio news from Amateur Radio New South Wales. Callbacks are taken (except 5425 kHz, which is a commercial frequency used for relay stations).

There is also unscheduled activity on 160 metres. Random contacts are generally on 1843 kHz AM during the day and either AM or SSB at night. In the evenings you may hear Australia-wide activity with 1825, 1840 and 1843 kHz being popular. Morse contacts with North Americans can sometimes be heard in the evening, most commonly between 1820 and 1830 kHz.

Several contests occur throughout the year, most notably the VK/Trans-Tasman 160 Metre Contest held each July.
