Shar^kie & Koala's reports as Posted on the Bali Forum while in Bali between the 08 - 25 May 1999 Travelling with Qantas was okay , however they ran out of peanuts before they reached my seat ( 39B ) ...Great...beer and no peanuts....not enough to jump out over but it does suggest the plane wasnt fully serviced before we left Melbourne. ( Glad they did top up the tank though ) |

Arrived in Bali at 4 pm local time...
Went to the carousel marked with our flight number and waited and waited and waited some more
After about 35 mins and the fact that now everything was arriving with Garuda tags..we
decided to check some of the other carousels...Sure enough there were our suitcases amongst
a few more from our flight at the carousel most furthest from the one marked with our flight No.
Now we were at the mercy of the porters as most people on our flight had cleared customs.
Odds were about 4:1 and after we did the hard work , like FIND our luggage, grab a trolly and
load everything on , the porters charged to our aid as we headed towards the customs area.
It was like breast stroking your way to the end of a pool filled with men in light blue suits ,
smiling all the way and repeating "no thank you" in as friendly a tone as possible :)
(ATM)We found an atm that takes cirus cards inside the arrival hall and decided to withdraw the
limit of 400,000 Rp knowing that I had a better chance with the bank exchange rate than the
money changers at the airport. (Airport Money changers AUS$1 = 4990 -5125 Rp shop arround)
Waved through customs , we proceeded to get a Taxi. We went to the window marked Taxi's , found outside the airport building before you clear the guard rails holding back the hordes that are there to meet you. Booked a Taxi to Nusa Dua ( 25,000 Rp ) and waited for it to arrive , which didnt take more than a min. Loaded the car with our , now but not for long , empty suitcases. Got to the Hotel Putri in Nusa Dua arranged a room next to the pool and under a 100 yards from the beach ( room 1051 )..Great possition. It was now about 6 pm local time and we were starving. ( time difference from Melbourne is 2 hours so it was 8 pm to our stomach's) |

Headed into Kuta and stock up at Matahari's and have some dinner. We have made friends with staff
at "R.Aja's so it was decided to have dinner there. We noticed that the prices had increased since
our last trip 12 mnoths ago but the prices were still great compaired to what we would pay in
Melbourne...
Burger n Fries : 15,000 |

Playstation Games : With our tummy's now satisfied we went to the supermarket stopping on the way to look at the "playstation" stalls. ( We have brought our "modified console" with us and decided that we should buy a couple of games here even though they werent the cheapest ( 15,000 Rp) at least we could entertain our 4 year old later that night if needed and we intend to spend the first day at the hotel relaxing. We purchased 4 games all ntsc and they all worked fine. We then entered Matahri's and found a playstation center in there as well with the same games "starting at" 10,000 EA. So I suggest that you try there first and if they dont have what you are looking for head back to the stalls next to McDonalds in Kuta Square. We noticed a great deal of security around kuta square that we can only put down to the unrest that has happened in the past week. ( for those that dont know the situation look in the Forums archives ) We felt very safe walking around and had no problems..The hawkers are still there in great numbers but seem to understand the words "No Thanks" which they didnt do last year. Arrived back at the hotel at about 9pm local time , worn out and beat by the heat and the travelling. Although its not as far as some of you bali aholics travel from..entertaining a 4 year old for around 10 hours is about all an old fish can handle :) ( I now bow down to my better 1/2 "koala" )
PUTRI HOTEL :
The hotel has a great deal of German tourists and although their english was a little hard to
understand it was better than my German ( zero )
