4. Real time serial connection
The RV229 can output speed and direction in serial form.
Connect the transducer to the RV229.
Plug the RV229 into the computer's RS232 serial port.
Start Hyperterminal, which is usually found under Programs,
Accessories, Communications.
In the Connection Description window enter a name for the new
connection. rv229 may be suitable.
In the Connect To window select the comm port to which the RV229 is
connected.
In the COMx Properties window, Port Settings tab, select 9600 bits per
second, 8 data bits, no parity, no flow control.
The RV229's LED should flash once per rotor revolution.
You should see something similar to that shown below, with a new line
of
data being added and the window scrolling up a line each second.
Each line comprises the most recent wind direction (eg. 104 degrees), a
comma, then the most recent wind speed (eg. 0.8 m/s).
To log the data, select Transfer, Capture Text and enter a file name.
You can open the file directly with Excel if you have named it with a
.csv
extension.
