From time to time we  receive new information on the families listed in 'West Limerick Families Abroad'. This page will include any updated information where appropriate and also note any possible corrections to the book. JOHN LANE b 1795-1799, Shanagolden, Co Limerick m Ann/a Hastings (sometimes Haisting/Histon/Hishon). Farmer. John died c1850, Ann later. Both John and Ann buried in Knockpatrick cemetery, Co Lim.

Issue: 9 children, b. Shanagolden, Co Lim:

Richard Lane b 1819/20, Shanagolden County Limerick, occupation farm labourer. Arrived in Victoria on board Runnymede on 30 Aug 1841. Married Mary Carey b 1816 on 24 Jan 1849 in St Francis's Church, Melbourne. Daughter Eleanor born 22 Jan 1850 but died soon after, son Patrick Richard Lane born 30 Sept 1851 and died Kalgoorlie 10 Feb 1926. Mary died 1852, Merri Creek. Richard remarried Anne Hayes, daughter of Michael and Margaret Hayes, originally from Tipperary. Richard cleared his 99 acres, purchased 1852, on the banks of the Yarra in Eltham and farmed potatoes until murdered on 30 Jan 1861 by his casual workman, (committed lunatic) James Montgomery, who'd lived in a bark but beside the Yarra property.

John Lane b 1820 -1824, Shanagolden, Co Lim, married Maria Ruddle 14 Dec 1949, died Co Lim.

Andrew Lane b 1820 -1824, Shanagolden, Co Lim migrated to USA, worked on railways, died in fire

Sarah Lane bpt 5 Mar 1825, Shanagolden, Co Lim

Margaret Lane bpt 7 Mar 1827, Shanagolden Co Lim

Anna/Anne Lane bpt 13 Mar 1829, Shanagolden, occupation housemaid, arrived in Geelong on board Bussorah Merchant 26 June 1850, accompanied by farm laboring cousins Stephen, Peter and Daniel Hastings with his wife Catherine, all of Shanagolden. Anne married Tobias Butler from Kilkenny, Ireland in Heidelberg c1853 but no record. 9 children. Farmed Woodstock. Anne died Epping, Vic. 29 Jul 1904.

Patrick Lane bpt 7 Mar 1831, Shanagolden, Co Lim.

Cornelius Lane bpt 26 Feb 1833, Shanagolden, Co Lim., migrated to Canada

Elizabeth Lane bpt 18 Jul 1835, Shanagolden, Co Lim.

 

 This information  was obtained from records, newspapers and the writings of family of the time and can be verified.

 Ms Lane also noted in the third last paragraph of the section of the book, Appendix 11 No 112 Stephen Roche, esq., that there should probably be a coma between the names LANE and WINDLE,  which would make a difference to the reference and would corroborate available family information.
