She was christened at St Therese's Parish, Yallourn. She was the daughter of Kevin Burke Shine and Pearl Hazel Lorraine Austin. Kathlyn (Kate) Margaret Shine married Anthony Harman Press on 9 January 1965 at Mordialloc, Victoria, Australia. She died 12 February 2009 at Cabrini Hospital, Malvern.        Kathlyn (Kate) Margaret Shine lived at 71 Claremont Avenue, Malvern, Victoria, Australia.

Kevin Burke Shine - photo taken 1920      Kevin Burke Shine was born on 18 December 1914 at Carlton, Victoria, Australia.1 He was the son of Cornelius Joseph Shine and Mary (Polly) Burke. Kevin Burke Shine and Pearl Hazel Lorraine Austin were engaged in 1938 at Moe; Kevin and Pearl met at Mount Baw Baw on a day trip to the snow. Kevin Burke Shine married Pearl Hazel Lorraine Austin on 9 September 1940 at Moe, Victoria, Australia.2 Kevin Burke Shine died on 10 October 1996, at 32 Albert Street, Moe, Victoria, Australia, at age 81. Kevin was buried at at Moe, Victoria, Australia.       In 1918 Kevin commenced primary school education at St Bridgets Primary School, Carlton, he achieved his Merit and won a scholarship to Parade College. In 1928 he continued his secondary school education at Parade College. Between 1929 and 1930 Kevin studied the fitting and turning trade at Collingwood Technical School. Between 1931 and 1932 he was an apprentice employed by Cameron Sutherland & Seward, machinery merchants in Riverside Avenue, South Melbourne. He worked a 5 ½ day week from 8.30 am to 5.30 with a half an hour break for lunch for the princely sum of 12/6 per week. He worked there for eighteen months but was retrenched in mid 1929 as the Depression started to take a grip. In 1932 Kevin Burke Shine lived at Mittyack, Victoria; he had been unable to find work and moved to Mittyack to work for his keep with his Uncle Patrick. Kevin being the baby was close to his mother and she sent him two or three tins of tobacco every month. Life in the country was good but he missed the city and returned to Melbourne. Shortly after coming home he took his mother to a garden fete at St Bridget's where she collapsed. Unfortunately she died not long after. On 23 July 1935 Kevin joined the Victorian Police at a salary of £7.0.0 per week. In 1944 Kevin started secondhand trading and in February 1945 he showed a profit of £90.0.0. This prompted his decision to leave the force and go into his own business. On 12 February 1945 Kevin left the police force and gambled on going it alone. He commenced trading in new and secondhand furniture in a rented shop in Cenreway, Yallorn. Frankie was 14 months old. Between 1946 and 1970 Kevin continued as a storekeeper in furniture and general household merchandise until his retirement.

Patrick Burke was christened on 8 October 1850 at Derryhasna, Stradbally, Co Limerick, Ireland.1,2 He was the son of Patrick Driver Jnr Burke and Margaret Burke.       Research Notes: Peggy Cockran is positive that Patrick Burke died in Melbourne in 1929 but no supporting evidence can be found in civil records. According to John Bourke (of 22 Fortfield Ave., Dublin 6) Patrick (Uncle Patsy) returned to Dublin about 1927 to live with his brother, William. Sometime later Patsy returned again to Australia and died soon afterwards.

Research Notes: Extensive research by Peggy failed to find a date and place of death for Michael. It is possible that he emigrated and died in New Zealand.

Ellen (Annie) Burke was christened on 6 May 1878 at Derryhasna, Stradbally, Co Limerick, Ireland.1 She was the daughter of Patrick Driver Jnr Burke and Margaret Burke. Ellen (Annie) Burke married James Neville, son of Patrick Neville and Ellen Donoghue, on 5 July 1897 at Limerick City, Co Limerick, Ireland.2 Ellen (Annie) Burke died on 9 April 1929, at Rathkeale Parish, Rathkeale, Co Limerick, Ireland, at age 50.3       Research Notes: It has been verified that Ellen was the daughter of Patrick Driver Burke - but I think her mother, Margaret Burke, was beyond the age of bearing children (47 years) and there is too great a gap (14 years) between Mary born 1864 and Ellen born 1878. It would seem likely that Patrick Driver Burke may have remarried c1877.2

Research Notes: James Neville studied for the priesthood at Blackrock College in Ireland and was ordained 16 June 1929. He took his first appointment at Kilimanjaro, East Africa in 1930 and spent the rest of his life working there. Mount Killiminjaro Climbing Killiminjaro involves travelling through five major zones, low-lying land cultivated with banana and coffee plantations, a spectacular rain forest, open moorland, a high-level desert which resembles a moonscape terrain and the upper slopes of the mountain with patchy snow cover and stunning views of huge glaciers which glisten in the sunlight. The temperatures ranges from 20 degrees Celsius at the foot to 10 Celsius at the summit. The final ascent to the summit, Uhuru Peak (the highest point in Africa), is 19,340 feet.
