This simple design is not new , i am presenting it in a way that ANYBODY can make, it only needs to be five inches long and taped to a stake in the ground. to view any one picture just click your stop botton and reload to get it going again, you should be able to make it from just looking at the pictures, use at your own risk , take all safety precautions.
The launcher is made from only four off the shelf components, and the nozzle from two.
Together with this text and the animated gif below (a picture says a thousand words) you should be able to make this launcher , IF YOU CANNOT I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT IT.
The parts you need for the launcher are
1. A quick disconnect hose connector
2. A short peice of plastic pipe that fits into the connector
3. A car tyre valve
4. A hose clamp
The parts for the nozzle are
1. A bottle cap
2. A quick disconnect nozzle , in australia it is a 28 mm fitting, and the bottle cap fits in tight
Ok here goes take the hose connector, take off the bottom part, cut a peice of plastic pipe you could use a peice of garden hose, but i use plastic pipe that is available at any garden watering hardware shop in australia and something simular should be available in most other countries. just cut it as long or as short as you want it , in this example it is only five inches long, and thats as long as its needs to be to work
Insert the plastic pipe into the connector, and screw on the bottom part very tightly
Now take your car tyre valve (tubeless type) and carefully cut the rubber so it as tight a fit inside the pipe , try to keep the rubber parallel with the tube wall, if there is to much angle the valve will slip , it is not hard to do.
Now slip the hose clamp over the end of the tube and TIGHTEN, i use TWO clamps (the picture only shows one).
Now you need to make a trigger just tie some string around the outside peice of the hose connector so you can pull it down to release the rocket nozzle, THATS IT for the launcher pretty easy.
Now for the nozzle, take a bottle cap and make a hole in it about the same diameter as the hole in the fitting, or a little bigger, rough up the outside of the cap, and the inside surface of the fitting, now apply a liberal coating of glue (liquid nails works very well) to the outside of the cap , and the inside of the fitting, push the cap into the fitting and smooth the excess glue , to get best surface contact and make sure the hole in the fitting is free of glue, let the glue set for a couple of days
now all you have to do is afix the launcher to a stake in the ground, just use tape or wire or something run your peice of string via a bolt or simular mounted on the stake , so it pulls the outside part of the connector down when you pull the string, connect a pump, a rocket with some water in it pump it up to pressure test it , and you are ready for launch.
In the picture of my launcher ready for blast off you will see i used a peice of plastic pipe about a foot long, (you can make it as short or long as you like), and taped it to a metal frame, and run the string down to a bolt, the pump used was a cheap car pump about $8.00 from KMART, you could use a bike pump, with a fitting to match the car tyre valve, but its hard work get yourself a car pump.
