Training in singing group leadership skills

Two and three day intensives: residential gatherings for prospective singing leaders at which the full range of skills are actively demonstrated and practiced in a safe and supportive environment

One day workshop gatherings: specific skills are passed on/exchanged between emerging and/or established singing leaders

'Collaborative practice': gatherings of singing leaders at which they teach each other songs and receive peer feedback on their methods

'On-site' training: a visiting skill sharer works with a local singing leader directly with his or her group

'Shadowing': an emerging leader observes an established leader at work

 

Networking

Network gatherings: community music activists come together to share experiences, repertoire, skills and knowledge

Special interest gatherings: singing leaders and activists with experience in particular issues come together to focus on key issues

Song swaps: singing leaders gather to exchange repertoire

Sing-ins: singing groups come together to make music and exchange repertoire

 

Advice and counselling

Group establishment facilitation: facilitating the first few gatherings at which a new group decides the direction it wishes to travel. If required, we lead the first few singing sessions.

Advisory services: we assist

  • · organisations, groups and individuals to make connections with their peers
  • · singing leaders with their problems
  • · singing groups through difficulties
  • · intending participants to articulate their desires and find groups to sing with

 

Advocacy

Agency engagement: direct approaches to organisations whose constituencies are likely to take up community music making

Demonstration: facilitators actively engage participants in the experience of singing together

'Big Sings': large-scale, one-off community singing events

'Writing it up': production of written materials describing the values and techniques that support community music making

Promotion: advertising the benefits and joys of community music making

Resource development

Repertoire materials: we have published two double CD / song book packages, Victoria Sings, and Short Stuff along with a range of 'home-recorded' CDs, all designed to help singing leaders bring new repertoire to their singing circles.

Shout!: bimonthly bulletin packed with information useful to those with an interest in community music making

Sing It!: quarterly newsletter for singing leaders and groups

Electronic bulletins: regular 'emailouts' to our networks

Website: the major keeping place and source of useful materials that can be stored electronically

Database: a constantly updated compendium of information on the state of community music making in Victoria
