Notes for Jonah WARD
Arrived with family in Melbourne, 29th December 1865 aboard the S.S. Royal Standard, departing from Liverpool on 21st October 1865 and proceeded to the Ballarat/Creswick goldfields, possibly Cambrian Hill prior to Ballarat/Creswick. The ship's master was Edward Whinsauy.
Carr Shield, Allendale and Nine Banks are all small mining towns in South West Northumberland. They are only about 6 miles apart. Allendale and Nine Banks are lush and green, while Carr Shield is barren and stoney.
The family owned a farm at Kingston, near Creswick, as well as being mine managers.
Also came with nephew James Bell, aged 14. Jonah's profession is given as farmer, and children as farm laborers.
There is a William Bell, Mining Manager, Kingston near Creswick. Received a private school education in England. Arrived in Victoria in 1865. Reference in The Clyopedia of Victoria, page 276, 277 after 1901
