Charles Bert Lewer - FOUND!!!!
Charles was found by John Collins, his grandson. He is burried in The Church of England Lawn Cemetary Rookwood in Sydney. Charles died on 17th September 1967.
Charles was born in 1895 and married Catherine Sophia Rogers in 1919; the family then migrated to Australia. He had two children; Joan Kathleen Lewer and Bert William Lewer.
He was last seen by the family in approximately 1955.
He visited my mother ( Joan) to view the new baby - Margorie Ann Collins. Charles left his
wife (Catherine Sophia Rogers ) for another woman - Patrica Doherty and set up a Milk Bar
in Swan Street Richmond Melbourne Victoria Aus.
Charles was never seen again after the visit to see Marg, and until now the family has not
been able to find any trace of him. There has been links to NSW and New Zealand but
nothing has been found. Patrica Doherty has been traced to Little River (Vic) but no one
there seems to know anything about her.

Further information
It's not known at this stage when James Sanders came to
Australia, or where he landed. James was born about 1828/29. His exact birth date is
not known but is assumed from his age provided when he married Eliza Iles on the 6th June
1854 at the Cathedral Church of St James, Melbourne. Eliza was born in Brighton, Sussex,
England.
On their Marriage Certificate, James gives his place of birth as St John, New Brunswick,
and his parents names, John Sanders, and Eliza Tabor. Eliza's parents were William Iles,
and Elizabeth Guilford, both of whom are buried at Creswick Cemetery, Victoria.
James was 26 when he married Eliza, and was living in Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne,
as was Eliza and her family.
James and Eliza's first child was born in Melbourne in 1855, the second, Ballarat,
Victoria, 1857, the third at Creswick in 1859. All subsequent births to James and Eliza
are at Creswick, (the last 1879) with the sole exception of their 10 child (1874) at
Bungaree. It is understood that James worked variously as a Miner, Carpenter and
also as a Carter.
How long James and Eliza stayed at Creswick after 1879 is unknown, although most of their
children married there. Some of the descendants of James and Eliza still live in the
Creswick and surrounding area. No record can be found relating to the death or burial of
Eliza. James died on Sat 30 Aug 1919 at the house of his grandson, Phillip Skipper
who lived at 319 Edwards Street, Brunswick East, Victoria. James is buried at the Coburg
Cemetery, Melbourne.
