BITS Theatre Company
(A BREAK IN THE SILENCE) Inc. is a multi-award winning company that began its life in October 1992. 
It was formed by NIDA (National Institute of Dramatic Art) graduate director David Atfield, in response to the need for more high quality theatre for adults in the ACT, and to the need for more challenging work for local theatre professionals, too many of whom are lured away to the larger cities.

The company has set out to achieve the following objectives:

1. To provide quality professional theatre for adults.
   
2. To develop and utilise professional Canberra based theatre artists.
   
3. To encourage, develop and perform creative text based works.
   
4. To provide a focus on gay and lesbian issues.
